Powering digital commerce for America's largest private food importer
Atalanta Corporation sources over 5,500 unique items globally. One catalog has to serve a distributor buying pallets and a shopper buying a single jar.
Two businesses, one catalog
A specialty food importer runs two businesses that look nothing alike. On one side, distributors and retail chains buying by the pallet against negotiated pricing tiers. On the other, individual buyers who expect the experience they get everywhere else online.
The instinct is to build two systems. That doubles the catalog work, and every product change has to be made twice, forever. With 5,500 items across dozens of countries and exclusive brands, that arithmetic gets punishing fast.
We argued for one platform carrying both, with pricing, visibility, and portal access as layers on top of a single product record. Harder to build once. Far cheaper to live with.
A commerce platform, and the systems around it
Magento 2 as the commerce layer, integrated with Infor CloudSuite (M3) so inventory and pricing come from the system Atalanta already runs on. Around it: a product information system, custom portals for major retail partners, a brand refresh, and the ongoing content work.
Cipriani Food, Minerva Dairy, Ammerländer, Mt Vikos, Casa Flores and the rest each get a real page with origin and positioning, not a logo in a grid. Buyers shop brands, so the catalog is navigable by brand as well as category.
64 brochures, 50 sell sheets, and a categorized video library, filterable and gated where it needs to be. This is the material that used to live in inboxes and shared drives.
Events, brand pages, sell sheets and video all work on a phone, because a large share of this audience is looking something up at a booth or in a customer's kitchen.
The same product data, presented for someone buying one item rather than a pallet. Separate front door, shared spine.
Identity, photography, and layout system for Atalanta Premium, carried consistently from the storefront through to print and campaign material.
None of this works without the product data
Specs, certifications, images, and country of origin for thousands of items have to live somewhere other than spreadsheets and one person's memory. That requirement became a product of its own.
Still shipping
The platform serves individual buyers and major retail chains from the same catalog, and it has absorbed new brands, new categories, and new partner portals without being rebuilt.
We are still on it. New brand pages, campaign work, sell sheets, video, and platform changes as the business changes. That is the part we would point to: not the launch, but that the thing built years ago is still the thing being extended.
